Material: hardened tool steel (Rockwell hardness >C60) polished to a high tolerance fit.

10 mm (1 cm) Pellets can be used for the preparation of KBr pellet for FTIR as well as a large variety of other lab applications, with increasing application in biomedical and energy storage researchers. Whatever application you need this versatile size for - the superior surface finish on our 10 mm Pellet Press Die Set (as with all our pellet die sets) will make our die set the right choice for long lasting trouble free performance. If you don't have a hydraulic press around the lab, you can use manual arbor pressed to exert sufficient force for compaction on these dies.

Die made of hardened tool steel (Rockwell hardness >C60) for long lasting trouble free performance. Sleeve is polished to high tolerances to allow the hardened tool steel plunger to slide through perfectly. Plunger and spacers are made from high yield strength steel, machined and polished to high tolerance for the perfect fit. Interior surfaces ground to mirror-like finish.

Yield Strength Hardened Steel 80,000 psi (550 MPa)
Recommended max loading @ 50 % 40,000 psi (275 MPa)
Recommended max force 4850 lb (2.4 ton, 22.6 kN)
Typical force for quality pellets 610-1825 lb (0.3-0.9 ton)
Die sleeve inner diameter 10 mm (0.39 inch)
Die sleeve height 50 mm (1.97 inch)
Die sleeve outer diameter 45 mm (1.77 inch)
Assembled height with spacers (w/o powder)* 100 mm (3.94 inch)
Assembled height no spacers (w/o powder)* 84 mm (3.31 inch)

*If making thicker pellets, the die set can operate just the same without spacers.

Safety:

  • Always wear googles and safety protection equipment
  • Clean well after use to prevent rusting.
  • Do not apply pressure beyond shown on table.

D2 Tool Steel. For most pellets this material will be perfect for the job. Hardened D2 tool steel  (Rockwell hardness >C60) for long lasting trouble free performance. The sleeve is polished to high tolerance to allow hardened tool steel plunger to slide through perfectly. Plungers and spacers are made from high yield strength steel, machined and polished to high tolerance for the perfect fit. Interior surfaces are ground to mirror-like finish. Release ring is made of aluminum.

Stainless steel. For a die set with great corrosion resistance and with for those heating for heating their dies up to max 250°C (482°F), this is a great choice. Stainless steel is a more expensive starting material and is slower to machine which leads than a slightly higher costs than our regular die sets. Our stainless die sets are heat treated for high hardness (~58) and have extremely high strength (160, 000 psi).

Recommended max force = Is the maximum force you can put the die set under. This includes a 50% safety margin which is industry standard.

Typical force for quality pellets = This is the range we recommend using that will get you a great pellet and is much less than the recommended max force.
